Stay safe while shopping on eBay

If you’re an eBay customer, you’re in the right place. Continue reading to see how we’re ensuring your health and safety at this uncertain time. We’ll update this page with any changes that may affect how you shop on eBay.

How we're supporting our business sellers

If you’re a business or store seller on eBay, visit our Seller Update page for the latest seller protections, fee support and selling guidelines.

Changes to eBay customer support

We are making some small changes to how we provide customer support to you.

Under new guidance from health authorities, we won’t be able to offer customer support over the phone until further notice. However our support team will be available as usual through our customer service online chat function.

If you have any questions or issues you can visit our help pages, which contain information and answers to frequently asked questions. We appreciate your patience for any customer service delays that may occur during this time.

Changes to how you’ll receive eBay orders

There have also been some changes about how you’ll receive your eBay orders, with carriers changing the way they deliver. This includes no longer requiring a Signature on Delivery:

  • Australia Post no longer requires a Signature on Delivery for a parcel delivery or collection. Whether at a Post Office or residence, an Australia Post staff member will ask for and record the customer’s name and sign on their behalf
  • Other Postage Carriers (i.e. Sendle, Fastway and Couriers Please) are temporarily moving away from a written Signature on Delivery and automatically granting Authority to Leave

Longer Delivery Times

We want to make sure we’re continuing to deliver your items to you when you need them most, especially now where a lot of your usual shopping channels have been impacted.

However due to increased demand and new restrictions your items may take a bit longer to reach you. We’ve also adjusted delivery windows onsite to ensure our sellers have more time to fulfil your orders safely.

We want to make sure we can continue to deliver for you during these challenging times, so ensure you’re providing an updated delivery address where your usual address (i.e. your office or building) is not accessible.

Click & Collect Orders

Click & Collect remains an option for you where available. As some stores are closing due to government restrictions, we are constantly updating the list of stores that remain open, so you will only be shown Click & Collect locations that are still available. Please be aware that some stores may have adjusted their opening hours.

Please also be aware of the social distancing guidelines introduced by the government, and only choose Click & Collect if you're in good health or opt for home delivery instead.

We’re Temporarily Disabling eBay Guaranteed Delivery

Sellers and their carriers are facing new challenges in fulfilling your eBay orders. This has been causing delivery delays which can cause frustration for you and put undue pressure on our sellers. With this in mind we are temporarily disabling eBay Guaranteed Delivery.

During this time you will no longer see eBay Guaranteed Delivery dates on site. Instead you'll see an estimated delivery date which is calculated based how long a seller takes to handle an order and their chosen carrier. You'll still receive all your items safely and securely - they just might take a little longer to arrive during this unprecedented time.

The Guaranteed delivery filters (e.g. for 3-day delivery) will still be visible onsite, however these won't return any search results while the program is disabled. If you have any eGD items which were ordered previously, you will still be able to claim a postage cost refund, $10 coupon or return if that item is delivered late.

We want to ensure sellers and carriers can continue to deliver items to you at this crucial time, so we want to give them time to do this safely and securely to ensure you can still shop on eBay with confidence.

Items that attempt to capitalise on the pandemic

We love that you can buy anything on eBay during times of need. Maintaining a safe and fair marketplace for our buyers and sellers during this time is our number one priority.

We won't tolerate sellers who may be listing items that attempt to capitalise on the COVID-19 pandemic - especially toilet paper, face masks and hand sanitiser. Our local and international teams are working around the clock and taking every step to crack down on listings that break our rules.

However, as eBay is Australia's largest online marketplace - with 1.4 billion global listings to keep on top of - it can be challenging to control. If something doesn't look right, we ask you to report it, so that we can continue to make eBay a safe and fair marketplace.
